Baseball scores good grades

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – A total of 208 University of Arkansas student-athletes earned grades at or above a 3.0 grade point average for the fall 2008 semester the Razorback Athletics Department announced recently.

The baseball team was one of the most honored of all 19 Razorback sports as 20 members of the squad reached the 3.0 plateau including a trio of Razorbacks who posted perfect 4.0 semesters.

Redshirt sophomores Scott Limbocker and Sam Murphy were two to earn pristine grades along with freshman James McCann. Limbocker is majoring in political science while McCann is a kinesiology major and Murphy is studying communications.

Along with the trio of 4.0 students, four Razorbacks made fall semester grades between 3.5 and 3.99. That quartet includes freshman third baseman Zack Cox (kinesiology), senior utility man Andrew Darr (criminal justice), freshman pitcher Zack Hall (undecided) and junior catcher Tom Hauskey (accounting).

The remaining 13 Razorback baseball players ranged in grade point averages of 3.0 and 3.49. Those members of the squad were junior pitcher Bryan Bingham (sociology), redshirt freshman infielder Tim Carver (kinesiology), senior catcher Ryan Cisterna (criminal justice), freshman pitcher Trevor Cousineau (undecided), junior pitcher T.J. Forrest (sociology), junior pitcher Christian Kowalchuk (sociology), redshirt freshman outfielder Collin Kuhn (kinesiology), senior shortstop Scott Lyons (sociology), freshman infielder Jonathan Perlman (undecided), junior pitcher Stephen Richards (sociology), sophomore outfielder Travis Sample (management), senior pitcher Justin Wells (criminal justice) and sophomore infielder Andy Wilkins (kinesiology).

The list of 208 honorees included 28 football players, 25 swimmers and divers, 24 soccer and men’s track and field athletes, 20 members of the baseball team, 19 softball players, 16 women’s track and field team members, 11 athletes from volleyball, 10 from gymnastics, seven women’s golfers, six each from men’s and women’s tennis, five from women’s basketball, four from men’s basketball and three from men’s golf.

In addition, the fall 2008 semester’s honors included 33 Razorback student-athletes with perfect 4.0 gpas.
