While the Razorback men’s basketball team is not on the court in an official capacity during the summer months, current and former Razorbacks are certainly making headlines.
Sophomore Marshawn Powell was included in ESPN’s Jay Bilas’ blog about the LeBron James Skills Academy citing:
"Powell is a good athlete that really did a nice job of running the court, going after the ball, defending and finding ways to affect the game without scoring. He was smart enough to figure out (without being told) that there were a lot of alpha males out there and only one ball, and he went about his business of influencing the game instead of just looking to score. Powell is another one to keep an eye on."
ESPN.com Insider’s can login and view Bilas’ blog posted on July 13 to see more about the camp and who else impressed those in attendance.
In former Razorback news, four Hogs signed professional contracts over the summer including Joe Johnson who inked a maximum contract to stay with the Atlanta Hawks, Ronnie Brewer who signed a free agent deal with the Chicago Bulls, Jannero Pargo who joined the Golden State Warriors and most recently Patrick Beverley who signed with the Miami Heat.
Here’s a story from examiner.com on the Beverley signing.
Ronnie Brewer’s move to Chicago was discussed in Yahoo! Sports Chicago Bulls team column here.
Joe Johnson’s singing was covered by the Atlanta Journal Constitution here.
Also in the news, ArkansasSports360 featured Razorback strength and conditioning coach Kelly Lambert in late June, visiting the long-time basketball support staff member on the strides that the Razorbacks are making this summer. Read the article written by Chris Bahn here.
