Batons get passed at Drake Relays

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Razorback women’s track and field team saw two of its relays advance to Saturday’s finals with qualifying times in Friday’s preliminaries.

The Razorbacks started the day with a fifth-place finish in the prelims of the 4×100-meter relay. Junior Karen Thomas, sophomore Shelise Williams, freshman Courtney Blair and freshman Whitney Jones combined for a time of 45.79 and qualified for the finals, scheduled to run at 5:20 p.m. Saturday.

Arkansas also advanced in the 4×400-meter relay. Senior Etienne Chaplin, Williams, Blair and Jones clocked a time of 3:41.12 and finished seventh overall. They will run the finals at 6:17 p.m. Saturday.

Individually, senior Lauren Lewis finished eighth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:12.75 and senior Etienne Chaplin ran a 15.12 to finish 21st in the 100-meter hurdles prelims.

The Drake Relays will wrap up Saturday, April 25. Arkansas’ first event of the day will be the sprint medley relay at 10:15 a.m. For more information, visit ArkansasRazorbacks.com or godrakebulldogs.com.
