FAYETTEVILLE – Freshman left-handed pitcher Kimmy Beasley was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week for her play in last week’s games at Kentucky and against University of Tennessee-Martin. "Right now Kimmy has the hot hand," said head coach Mike Larabee. "There is no doubt about that."
Beasley threw 21.1 innings in the past four games against Kentucky and UT-Martin with a 3-1 record. After dropping the first contest to UK in extra innings, Beasley threw a complete game in the backend of the doubleheader while striking out six and allowing no walks to collect her first SEC victory. Beasley threw a personal best nine strikeouts in the first matchup with UT-Martin, and fanned 23 total batters on the week.
"She did a phenomenal job this week," said Larabee. "She was very consistent and accurate with all three pitches, and got into the minds of the batters."
Beasley’s performance this week improves her 2012 record to 8-5, throwing 86.1 innings while appearing in 22 games. She has recorded a total of 73 strikeouts while only allowing 27 walks. A highlight of her season, thus far, was the victory over then-No. 7 Baylor where she threw all seven innings only allowing one walk and helped the Razorbacks to the 5-1 upset over the Bears.
The Foreman, Ark. native is the fourth freshman Razorback to receive this honor and first to receive it since the 2010 season.
The Razorbacks are back in action Tuesday at Bogle Park when they play a single non-conference game against UMKC at 5p.m. For more information on Arkansas softball or Arkansas athletics please visit ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
