Benton Reaches Quarterfinals

KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tennessee — University of Arkansas senior Kaylee Benton picked up a 3&2 win advancing to the semifinals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship in Kingston Springs, Tennessee, on Friday.

She faces Alabama’s Kristen Gillman Saturday as match play continues.

Benton advanced through two rounds of stroke play finishing 21st overall. She opened with a 4&2 win over Caroline Curtis of Richmond, Virginia, in the round of 64. She added a 4&3 win over Madison Caldwell of Milton, Georgia, followed by a 3&2 win over Emilee Hoffman of Folsom, California, in the round of 16.

Benton faced a back-and-forth battle on Friday with four lead changes through the first 10 holes. She won back-to-back holes on Nos. 11 and 12 and picked up a three-hole advantage winning No. 13. Benton would hold that lead for the win.

Saturday’s action airs live on FS2 beginning at 9 a.m.
