Bill's Blog: Red-White Game

8:23 p.m. — Good night from Fayetteville. Check back later this evening for the full game story and stats.

8:19 p.m. — Wright leads with 125 yards on 7 catches; Curtis has 10 carries for 103 yards; Childs has two TD receptions; Curtis has two TD rushes.

8:18 p.m. — DeAnthony Curtis breaks right for a 23 yard touchdown run. PAT is good and Coach Petrino calls it done. Red wins 49-21. Quick numbers, Red has 574 total yards, White 255; 402 in the air for Red, with 172 on White. Mallett has 26-15-2 for 233 yads and two TD; Wilson combined for 36-23-1 for 301 and 2 TD.

8:17 p.m. — Wilson scrambles ahead to make it third and one, time out stops the running clock at 57 seconds. To this point, Red has 550 total yards with 402 in the air.

8:15 p.m. — Wilson starts moving the chains for the Red, pushing the team upfield to the White 27. 30 yard pass to Joe Adams key in the drive so far.

8:14 p.m. — Wilson as the QB for Red — 12-10-0 for 120 yards and a TD; with the White — just 20-9-1 for 132 (50 of that on the one TD with White).

8:12 p.m. — Youngblood looks for Tucker on the roll out, he is separated from the ball by Matt Harris. Next play, Childs pulls in the crossing pattern for a 20 yard touchdown. PAT makes it 42-21 Red with 4:25 left.

8:10 p.m. — Fumble by Red, Matt Marshall recovers for the White team and White will start at the Red 26 yard line with 6:00 left. Youngblood is at QB. Whips it into the flat for Fish, Madison meets him with a hard tackle. Six yard gain for 2nd and four.

8:09 p.m. — WIlson back for Red, lobs one ahead on a screen to Curtis for nine to start the drive.

8:08 p.m. — Adrian Moore goes 62 yards for the touchdown, and the White team picks up its second touchdown on the fake reverse. PAT makes it 42-14 Red.

8:04 p.m. — Wilson goes to Crawford again, this time a 23-yard touchdown. PAT makes it 42-7 Red with 8:58 left in the game.

8:03 p.m. — Crawford finds space for a 13 yard gain along the far sideline. 1st and 10 on the 23 of White for Red with Wilson at QB.

8:02 p.m. — Wilson finds Wright for 14 yards and the first down to the White 38 yard line.

8:01 p.m. — Tusk gets big face time on the scoreboard.

8:00 p.m. — White goes for it on fourth down. Youngblood looks deep, and the two players wrestle and the ball falls incomplete. Red takes over on downs. Wilson returns to the Red team, and finds Adams in the right flat for a short loss.

7:58 p.m. — Green has the carry. He is one of the handful of players that are going for both teams tonight. Youngblood shovel passes to Green to set the third down, but the Red defense clamps down to stop Green and bring up 4th down.

7:55 p.m. — End of third quarter, Red up 35-7. The 21-point second quarter, punctuated by the two-minute drill drive by Mallett is the real difference in the game so far.

7:54 p.m. — Youngblood to Childs moves the sticks close to the first down, 3 and a long one. Youngblood on the keeper doesn’t get far, but far enough for the first down.

7:53 p.m. — Youngblood back at QB for the White.

7:51 p.m. — Johnson goes again, this time bouncing outside to the left. He powers down to the two yard line against resistance. On second down, Van Stumon gets the touchdown. PAT is good and it’s 35-7 Red with 1:47 left in third.

7:50 p.m. — Red gets inside the 10, and earns the first down at the six thanks to a Dennis Johnson run.

7:49 p.m. — Curtis up the middle sets a 3rd and five; audible by Mallett, he lofts it out into the left flat to Curtis for a long gain to the White 17 yard line. 22 yards on the play.

7:49 p.m. — Adam Pierce with a tackle for loss that will force second and 10 1/2

7:47 p.m. — Mallett gets flushed from pocket, Wright 21-yard gain to the 41. Then a fumble on the second down, picked up and carried forward by D.J. Williams. This will advance the Red team to the 44 of White.

7:46 p.m. — Mallett from under center, quick pitch to Curtis goes for little gain to the left.

7:43 p.m. — Jerry Franklin hands out a man’s tackle, crushing Green in the backfield. Draws an oooooh we can hear through the glass in the press box. White punts away on fourth down. Red takes over on their own 20.

7:42 p.m. — Wilson works Fish to the right flat, and nice upfield block opens up eight yards. 2nd down at the 42, and pressure forces Wilson to throw it away.

7:41 p.m. — Wilson to Fish in the flat, Fish breaks away for a first down out to the 25 yard line. A 12 yard gain. Little underneath screen on first down to Green moves the chains again, 15 yards on the play to the 40.

7:39 p.m. — Mallett hangs, hangs, hangs in the pocket, then clears the ball away deep. Very patient with the ball, and protecting the possession. Unfortunately, on the next play, Williams can’t keep the handle on the pass and Love gets the interception.

7:38 p.m. — Johnson over the left side, Powers and Marshall on the stop after three yards.

7:37 p.m. — Wilson starts off the second half as the QB for the White team, just ahead of DJ Williams on first down; draw play results in a fumble by Bailey and covered by Wendell Davis of the Red team. First and 10 at the 26.

7:35 p.m. — Getting ready for the start of the second half.

7:27 p.m. — Capping off the awards, Michael Smith is named the team’s MVP. The ceremony ends with the current team shaking the hands of the last year’s seniors — nice touch.

7:26 p.m. — For the White team, Wilson is 6-14-1 with one TD and 97 yards; Bailey leds with 10 carries and 25 yards; Greg Childs has two catches for 56 yards.

7:24 p.m. — Quick look at the stats — Mallett goes 13-21-1 with two TDs and 190 yards; Curtis leads the Red with 67 yards on four rushes; Broderick Green leads in rushes with seven. Wright and Adams have five catches each, and only one yard separates.

7:20 p.m. — Coach Petrino starts some new traditions tonight, inviting the seniors back to receive framed jerseys.

7:18 p.m. — Halftime includes several presentations tonight. A reminder that the second half of the game will be a running clock, so we may not be able to keep the same granular detail in the blog.

7:16 p.m. — Mallett plays safe and throws over the coverage into the end zone on first down. Mallett settles into the pocket, checks off one, two receivers, finds Joe Adams wide open in the right corner of end zone. The PAT is good and they’ll let the last 19 seconds expire for a 28-7 halftime lead for the Red.

7:15 p.m. — Estimated attendance is 30,000 for game.

7:14 p.m. — Joe Adams has some nice moves and YAC to push the Red down to the 18 yard line. 1st and 10 with a time out for Red. 32 seconds left in the half.

7:12 p.m. — Mallett to Adams out the 50, Red team in hurry up. Clock running under a minute. Mallett finds Jarius Wright for 20 more yards. First and 10 at the 30. Mallett again looks, but a coverage sack and a timeout for Red.

7:11 p.m. — Red with Mallett now has a chance for a two-minute drill (well, OK, a 78 second drill). Incomplete on the first down pass into the flat. A timeout for the Red.

7:10 p.m. — Wilson gets the White on the board with a deep pass to Greg Childs. The 50-yarder and the PAT makes it Red 21-7 with 1:18 left in the half.

7:09 p.m. — After the TD, Wilson returns for the White team. Short gains out to the 46 for third down. Adrian Moore plows up the middle to get a first down for the White at the 50.

7:06 p.m. — Third time is the charm as Green gets in from the one yard line. PAT is good and it’s 21-0 Red with 2:32 left in the second quarter.

7:05 p.m. — Green muscles in for the first down, gets very close to the touchdown. On first down, Razorbacks go to Green again, but not much space this time. No gain for second and goal at the two.

7:04 p.m. — Red was ready to go for it on fourth, but called time out.

7:03 p.m. — Curtis carried down to the White eight yard line, third and four. Mallett from the gun, overload to the left side, he’ll swing it to Curtis, the lone back left in the backfield. Curtis gets halfway to the first down, sets a fourth and two at the six.

7:03 p.m. — Mallett goes for the end zone, broken up by the White secondary.

7:02 p.m. — Jarius Wright takes the pass from Mallett in full stride and in one play, Red is at the White 15 yard line.

6:59 p.m. — Youngblood scrambles out to his right, picking up nothing and setting a 3rd and 7 at the 18.

6:58 p.m. — Thomas and Love wrap up D.J. Williams and stop the drive at the 15 yard line. White takes over. Jim Youngblood is the QB.

6:57 p.m. — Wilson is incomplete on third, sets up a fourth down and six at the 20. Red will go for it again (they are two of two so far).

6:56 p.m. — Short gain for Green, Stewart had the tackle, wrapping up Green after a three-yard gain. 2nd and 7 at the White 22 for the Red. Long snap count, perhaps and audible, pitch back to Green but the play takes a little too long to develop. Stewart finds Green again for the tackle.

6:55 p.m. — Wilson to Crawford on a drag across the middle, Crawford double-clutches the catch and keeps the handle. 2nd and six, Wilson goes quickly into the left flat to Adams, who makes a first down out of the play with an 11-yard gain.

6:54 p.m. — Davis stuffs the run for the White, and a third and short for Red. Wilson out of the shotgun fakes the give to Green, then keeps for the first down on the run to the 38 yard line. Six yard gain.

6:52 p.m. — Jarius Wright hauls in a Wilson pass for the first down at the 47, nice movement with the pocket by the QB. Backs it up with a hand-off to Curtis of nine and a half yards. A short 2nd and one in White territory.

6:52 p.m. — Ambrose breaks through to stop Curtis for a loss; Wilson now facing 3rd and 14 for the Red team.

6:51 p.m — Wilson changes teams, and as the Red QB finds a 29-yard gain to move the Red from the five out to their own 44; then on second down almost makes the connection for another 40 yards.

6:47 p.m. — Wilson slips the rush, but under throws Fish to set up a punt for the White. Barnett punts down to the five, so Red will have a long way to go.

6:46 p.m. — Wilson rips one into the flat, and a near interception on the carom off the shoulder pads; brings up third and a short eight.

6:45 p.m. — After a slow start on the drive, a 13 yard pass from Wilson puts the White team just into Red territory by the length of the ball.

6:40 p.m. — D.J. Williams gets a nine-yard touchdown pass from Mallett. Williams was the short receiver, and lunged up field to dive into the endzone. PAT is good and it is 14-0 Red.

6:38 p.m. — During the break between quarters, senior associate AD Chris Wyrick accepts a check from the ASG to support the Tusk Fund.

6:36 p.m. — Mallett converts his second straight fourth down with a 10 yard gain to the 11 yard line. Clock runs out to end first quarter with Red leading 7-0 and threatening again at the White 10 yard line.

6:35 p.m. — Mallett finds Williams; sets up third down at the 19 yard line. Looks like an audible, Mallett hands off to Dennis Johnson. Red loses two yards and has fourth down.

6:33 p.m. — Third down incomplete sets a fourth down, and the Red team will go for it. Mallett converts the fourth down to D.J. Williams for a first down at the 23.

6:33 p.m. — Nice play fake by Mallett, his size makes his speed look deceptive; lofts one effortlessly into the endzone but just over the receiver.

6:32 p.m. — Johnson up the middle again, three yard gain to the White 32 yard line.

6:30 p.m. — Johnson gets the first down for Red on a draw, off 1st and 10, Mallett steps back into the pocket and calmly finds Adams in the left deep flat. A 32 yard gain to the White 34 yard line

6:29 p.m. — Darren McFadden being interviewed by the CST crew’s sideline reporter, Kevin Trainor. McFadden’s appearance on scoreboard draws a big round of applause from the crowd. Meanwhile, Red team now faces a third and a long one.

6:27 p.m. — Burton makes good pursuit for Red to bring third down for White. Coverage forces Wilson out of the pocket. He gets a modest gain, but brings up fourth down.

6:26 p.m. — Three step drop and lob from Wilson just off the fingertips of Andrew Norman.

6:25 p.m. — White gets positive yards on first down, sets up a nice 2-and-2. Bailey brings is across on the ground for the first down. White team squarely on the 50 yard line.

6:24 p.m. — Little trouble fielding the punt for Reggie Fish. White takes over on is own 35.

6:24 p.m. — There’s our first Mallett bullet pass, whizzes up field to find Joe Adams, but just off his fingertips.

6:23 p.m. — Mallett broken up; defenses after the initial offensive flourishes have tightened up on both sides of the ball.

6:22 p.m. — Mallett hands off to Broderick Green, loss on the play. 2nd and 14 for Red on own 17.

6:21 p.m. — In TV timeout, so time to type. White overcame several third downs to advance up the field, but not exactly a "drive." Red defense stiffens inside the Red Zone and gets the key sack to kill the scoring opportunity.

6:19 p.m. — Wilson gets "sacked" by Adrian Davis — no full tackle on the QBs today — sets up a 42 yard attempt for Cameron Bryan, its wide left.

6:18 p.m. — The fake is sold well, but Wilson doesn’t get a lot on the naked swing to Cleveland; third down again.

6:17 p.m. — Wilson shows lots of discipline in the pocket, could have broken up field for the first down; instead he finds Reggie Fish for a huge gain to the Red 15 yard line.

6:16 p.m. — Bailey gets back most of the penalty to set up another third down for the White, this time 3 and just under 10.

6:16 p.m. — Flags fly; motion on the offense.

6:15 p.m. — Tramain Thomas returns the favor pic’ing Mallett; White ball back at the 44 of Red.

6:14 p.m. — Wilson picked by Harris, right after he broke up a pass; Tyler Wilson’s tackle puts the Red back in business at the White 46

6:13 p.m. — Matt Harris’ nice break-up forces a 3rd and 10 for the White team.

6:11 p.m. — Wilson finds Bailey in the left flat; first flag of the game. Grabbing the facemask for 15 yards keeps drive alive.

6:11 p.m. — Patrick Jones breaks up the first pass of the White team, Wilson works under center and hands off to Mitchell Bailey; not a lot of room

6:10 p.m. — We’re in a time out; Mallett was 2-for-2 out of the gun, then when stepping under center gets the great play fake to help break Curtis.

6:09 p.m. — The kick is good, and the White team will now start from their own 30 yard line.

6:09 p.m. — Mallett under center, hands off to De’Anthony Curtis and 55 yards later, TOUCHDOWN ARKANSAS.

6:07 p.m. — Ryan Mallett steps under center, 1 and 10 at 25 for the Red., pass complete to London Crawford and we’re underway

6:06 p.m. — Teams are onto the field.

6:05 p.m. — Long’s closer catching the football and pointing to the crowd, "Are You Ready? Let’s Go" gets a big round of applause and it cues the teams onto the field.

6:04 p.m. — Jeff Long addresses the stadium through the video board.

6:03 p.m. — Full size "A" by the band for the teams to run out on the field; less than five minutes to kick

6:01 p.m. — They are calling the hogs and the crowd continues to roll in — we’re well over 20K now and they keep heading in.

5:56 p.m. — If you’re watching with us on-line, email comments and we’ll try to post some at halftime.

5:49 p.m. — Another big jump in fans (must have been waiting in the concourse); team has headed back to the locker room to prep.

5:37 p.m. — Crowd filling in the west lower side; about 30-to-30 on the east stands.

5:33 p.m. — Balance of team now out for warmups — we’re just over 30 minutes from Red-White kickoff

5:31 p.m. — Full sunshine now at DWRRS.

5:30 p.m. — Ryan Mallett is the QB for the Red Team; Tyler Wilson starts with the White Team, but is listed as one of five players who will go on both teams.

5:28 p.m. — It is a real game format, with split teams. A handful of players will go on both teams — for example, Broderick Green will wear #29 for the white and #20 for the red.

5:27 p.m. — Today is the last day for natural grass at DWRRS; the changeover to synthetic turf begins tonight. Fans can buy a 9-inch by 9-inch piece of the turf after the game, and also tomorrow afternoon from 2-4 p.m. in the South endzone.

5:26 p.m. — The game is streaming live today — both audio and video — at RazorVision. It will be televised in the northwest Arkansas market on Cox Sports Television (channel 119).

5:25 p.m. — The Razorback band is marching in.

5:23 p.m. — Bright sunny day now with some broken clouds — you’d never known it rained earlier.

5:18 p.m. — Remember, today’s game is free admission, but we are asking everyone to give a contribution to help support the Tusk Fund. There are barrels at all entrances to take your donations.

5:17 p.m. — Fans starting to make their way into the lower level as the weather gets great.

5:16 p.m. — And just like that, here come the Razorbacks out onto the field for specialists warm-ups. Cue the team warm-up music on the field level PA system.
