Boit Earns Another SEC Athlete of Week Award
BY ANDRES FOCIL
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After capturing his second-straight meet title at the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree on Saturday junior transfer Josphat Boit earned his second Southeastern Conference Athlete of the Week honor this season.
“It’s a nice honor for Josphat to win it twice,” Arkansas head coach John McDonnell said. “Hopefully it can serve as motivation for him to keep doing well throughout the season. He’s doing everything right and he’s focused. That’s why he came to Arkansas, to train with the right people and improve. He’s definitely on the right path to succeed.”
In the process of capturing first place he also posted a season-best time of 23:52 on the tough and demanding 8K OSU Cross Country Course. The Eldoret, Kenya native’s performance helped guide six other Hog athletes to finish in the top 25 out of 204 other runners from 21 schools.
Boit was first given the award on Sept. 20, after he won the Missouri Southern Stampede with a time of 23:54. Members of the Razorback team now account for three of the five times the award has been presented this year. Junior Luis Bordes was given the award after he finished first at the season-opening Arkansas Invitational on Sept. 3.
The Razorbacks will enjoy this week off as they prepare for the 10K Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., on Oct. 16. The men’s race is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. The SEC Championships will follow on Oct. 30, when Arkansas will host the league meet for the first time since 1994.
