Boit, Murphy Earn SEC Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Arkansas cross country duo Gilbert Boit and Ryan Murphy Southeastern Conference honors following the 30th Annual Chile Pepper Festival past weekend at Agri Park.

Boit, named the SEC Runner of the Week, capped his first appearance on a cross country course for Arkansas with a second-place finish at the 30th Annual Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville. Boit finished runner-up to former Razorback and current Nike athlete Frankline Tonui by a mere .04, running 24:05.8 over the 8K course. Boit’s performance helped the Razorbacks to the team title scoring 38-points. Boit’s time is the No. 1 mark in the SEC at 8K this season.

Murphy, who earned SEC Freshman Runner of the Week honors, finished fourth in a crowded field Saturday afternoon at the Chile Pepper Festival. Murphy, who finished with a time of 24:28.70, is currently the sixth-fastest time in the conference at 8K this season, and the fastest mark in the conference at that distance by a freshman.

The No. 13 Razorbacks will take a few weeks off before heading to the Mid-Atlantic for a run at the Penn State National hosted by the Nittany Lions at the Penn State Blue & White Course in University Park, Pa. on Fri, Oct. 12.
