Bortis Named SEC Golfer of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas sophomore golfer Matt Bortis’ was named the SEC Golfer of the Week on Wednesday after he captured medalist honors at the National Invitational Tournament at the Omni Tucson (Ariz.) National Golf Club earlier this week.
The Springfield, Mo., native carded a career-best 204 to win the first tournament of his career. He shot under par in all three rounds, including a tournament-best 67 in the second round. He fired a 69 in the first round and a 68 in the final round to hold off Matthew Rosenfeld of Texas and Michael Putnam of Pepperdine.
Bortis led the Razorbacks to a second-place finish at the NIT, just three strokes behind 12th-ranked TCU. He also lowered his scoring average to 72.04, which ranks fourth in the SEC. His scores in relation to par are seven-over for the season, which is second best in the league.
Head Coach Mike Ketcham’s Razorbacks return to action on April 4-5 at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate in Austin, Texas.
