Bortis Finishes Tied for 5th; Razorbacks Tied for 8th at Morris Williams Intercollegiate

AUSTIN, Texas. – The Arkansas men’s golf team finished the Morris Williams Intercollegiate on Tuesday in a tie for eighth place with a 14-over-par total of 878 at the 6,906-yard, par-72 Austin Country Club.

The Razorbacks shot an 11-over-par 299 in Tuesday’s final round to finish in a tie with TCU. The Hogs fired rounds of 296 (+8) and 283 (-5) in the first two rounds on Monday.

Second-ranked Oklahoma State won the tournament with a 14-under-par 850, nine shots better than second-place Texas Tech and 13 shots better than third-place BYU. Host Texas finished fourth at even-par 864 with Oklahoma fifth at 4-over 868.

Matt Bortis shot a 1-under-par 71 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for fifth place with Texas Tech’s Andrew Dresser. It is Bortis’ third top-10 finish this season and the seventh of his career. He shot an opening round 73 and then came back with a 69 in the second round.

Senior Josh Farrell posted Arkansas’ second best score with a 5-over-par 221 to finish in a tie for 36th place. He opened with a 1-under-par 71 on Monday and the shot a 74 in the second round.

Sophomore Scotty Campbell’s third round came apart on the back nine Tuesday. He was even par for his round at the turn but shot 7-over par on the back nine for a 79. Campbell finished tied for 49th with an 8-over-par 224 for the tournament.

Eric Shriver bounced back with his best round of the week with a 1-over-par 73 in the final round to finish at 11-over-par 227 and tied for 63rd position. Freshman Jordan Payne struggled down the stretch on Tuesday and finished with an 11-over-par round of 83. He posted a 14-over-par 230 for the event.

BYU’s Oscar Alvarez took home medalist honors with a 7-under-par 209.

The Razorbacks return to the course on April 8-9 at the Sun Devil Intercollegiate in Tempe, Ariz. The tournament will be played on the ASU Karsten Golf Course.
