Bortis Starts Slow at NCAA Central Regional

CHARDON, Ohio – Arkansas golfer Matt Bortis is in a tie for 63rd place after firing a 4-over-par 75 in the first round of the NCAA Central Regional at the par-71, 7,136-yard Sand Ridge Golf Club on Thursday.

Bortis opened with six bogies on the first seven holes to fall behind early after teeing off on the 10th. He rallied with a birdie on his ninth hole of the day No. 18.

He then carded birdies his first two holes of his back nine to get to 3-over par after 11 holes. Bortis followed with back-to-back bogies to drop back to 5-over par. After four straight pars he finished with a birdie on No. 9 to close out his round.

Bortis will tee off his second round at 8:02 a.m. Friday morning.
