Brewer Named Defensive All-American

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas junior guard Ronnie Brewer has been named a defensive All-American by CollegeInsider.com.

Brewer leads the Southeastern Conference in steals with 2.61 and could become just the second Razorback to lead the league. Robert Shepherd led with 2.8 in 1993.

Brewer is also tied for first in the SEC with LSU’s Glen Davis in scoring (18.5), and he is eighth in free throw percentage (.745), and 10th in field goal percentage (.443) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.46).

Other members of the Defensive All-America team are Arron Afflalo of UCLA, LaMarcus Aldridge of Texas, Engin Atsur of North Carolina State, Corey Belser of San Diego, Josh Boone of Connecticut, Rodney Carney of Memphis, Mardy Collins of Temple, Chaz Crawford of Drexel, Randy Foye of Villanova, Jamon Gordon of Virginia Tech, Vernon Hamilton of Clemson, Erek Hansen of Iowa, Eric Hicks of Cincinnati, Shawn James of Northeastern, Squeaky Johnson of Alabama-Birmingham, Ricky Soliver of Iona, Obie Trotter of Alabama A&M, Marquis Webb of Rutgers, Shelden Williams of Duke and Tony Young of Southern Illinois.

Brewer was earlier named one of 22 finalists for the Wooden Award, which goes to the top collegiate player in the country. He has also been named first-team All-SEC, and first-team All-District 9 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and first-team All-District VII by the United States Basketball Writers Association.

Brewer enters Friday’s 11:30 a.m. NCAA Tournament first-round game against Bucknell at Dallas 16th on UA’s career scoring list (1,402), seventh in steals (214) and 11th in free throws made (319).

The Razorbacks are 22-9 while Bucknell, the Patriot League champion, is 26-4.
