Brown earns second weekly award

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – For the second week in a row, Arkansas Razorback Stephanie Brown, a member of the No. 11 women’s track and field team, has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.

Brown, a native of Downs, Ill., competed in the mile and as the 800-meter leg of the distance medley relay at the Texas A&M Challenge this weekend. She finished second in the mile with a time of 4:46.40. Her time is a season best, an NCAA provisional qualifier, ranks No. 13 in the NCAA (second among freshmen) and No. 3 in the SEC (first among freshmen).

As the 800-meter leg of the DMR, she clocked a split of 2:07.62 and the quartet combined for a time of 11:15.70. The DMR time is a season best, an improved NCAA provisional qualifier, ranks No. 2 in the NCAA and leads the SEC.

Brown is now provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in three events. Her season best in the 800 meters (2:05.08) ranks No. 3 in the NCAA (first among freshmen) and No. 3 in the SEC (first among freshmen).

Arkansas will compete next at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational, Feb. 5-6, at the Armory Track Center in New York, N.Y.
