Brown honored by the SEC

FAYETTEVILLE – Freshman Stephanie Brown, a member of the Arkansas Razorback women’s cross country team, has been recognized by the Southeastern Conference, it was announced Tuesday.

Brown has been named the SEC Freshman Runner of the Week after her performance at Friday’s Arkansas Invitational. A 2010 indoor track and field All-American, she finished third overall and third among the Hogs at the Arkansas Invitational, her Razorback cross country debut. She clocked a time of 14:12.5.

"Stephanie is proving that she is a competitor," head coach Lance Harter said. "It doesn’t matter what distance she is racing and that’s key for her development. We are very pleased with how she has progressed and she’s definitely a factor in our line-up."

Brown was the top freshman finisher and the only freshman to finish in the top five at the Arkansas Invitational. Arkansas won the team race with a perfect 15 points and finished eight runners in the top nine and all nine runners in the top 14.

The Razorbacks will compete next on Saturday, Sept. 18 at the UC-Riverside Invitational.
