Bubis, Pacheco Advance at Baylor Intercollegia
WACO, Texas – Seniors Aleksey Bubis and Eduardo Pacheco both won their first round matches at the Baylor Intercollegiates Tournament in Waco, Texas on Thursday. This is the first collegiate tournament for Pacheco and the second for Bubis who paired with Kristofer Ivarsson to win the doubles title at last weekend’s Tulsa Hurricane Invitational.

Bubis faced first round competition against Texas-San Antonio’s Brett Veale. The Razorback would come out with what appeared to be an easy victory, 6-1, 6-3. His second round foe would be much more formidable as he faced New Mexico’s Bart Scott. Bubis, however, would come away with the spoils in a three set, 38 game match, winning, 7-6, 6-7, 7-5. Bubis is set to play New Mexico’s Divan Coetzee in tomorrow’s round of 16 action at 11:00 a.m. Coetzee is ranked No. 90 in the nation and seeded eighth in the tournament. This will be Bubis’s first match against a ranked opponent since his win over Kentucky’s Gustav Pousette (No. 94) last year. Last year Bubis was 3-0 against ranked opponents in singles competition.

Pacheco faced off against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Gareth Ducray in first round action coming away with a win, 6-2, 6-4. In the second round Pacheco faced Baylor’s Marin Matias. Matias is ranked No. 80 in the nation and was seeded seventh in the tournament. Marin walked away with the win, but not without Pacheco putting up a fight in the first set. Pacheco would fall at 7-6, 6-1.

Pacheco and Bubis will team up tomorrow to face Lamar’s Edaai Gonzales and Christian Oliver in doubles competition.
