FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas men’s track and field head coach Chris Bucknam has been recognized by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as the South Central Region Coach of the Year. The No. 2 Razorbacks begin competition at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships Wednesday in Eugene, Ore. In his fifth season at the helm of the men’s team, Bucknam guided Arkansas to the program’s 18th SEC outdoor team title and its third in a row. The win completed the Razorbacks’ second-consecutive SEC Triple Crown. The win also marked the 11th SEC title in 15 conference meets for the Razorbacks under Bucknam. On the heels of the team’s conference title, Bucknam was named the SEC Coach of the Year. Arkansas will enter the NCAA Championships with 20 national entries, tied for the highest figure among teams in the country. On the track, the Razorbacks will be represented by Kemoy Campbell (5,000 meters), Caleb Cross (400m hurdles), Akheem Gauntlett (400 meters), Solomon Haile (10,000 meters), Stanley Kebenei (3,000m steeplechase), Anthony Lieghio (800 meters), Leoman Momoh (800 meters), Patrick Rono (800 meters), Tomas Squella (800 meters) and the team’s 4×100- and 4×400-meter relays. The Razorbacks’ field-event contingency consists of Tarik Batchelor (long jump, triple jump), Nathanael Franks (decathlon), Dwayne Golbek (high jump), Raymond Higgs (long jump), Andrew Irwin (pole vault), Jarrion Lawson (long jump), Kevin Lazas (decathlon) and Anthony May II (high jump). The 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships will be contested June 5-8 at Hayward Field in Eugene.
