Butler wraps up at NCAAs

EUGENE, Ore. – Junior LaShawn Butler competed for Arkansas Razorback men’s track and field on day two of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, in Eugene, Ore. The University of Oregon is hosting the meet at Hayward Field.

Butler ran the semifinals of the 200 meters. He finished eighth in his heat and 21st overall with a time of 21.28. He did not advance to Saturday’s finals.

He also ran the third leg of the Razorback 4×100-meter relay on Wednesday. With Butler part of the quartet, the relay clocked a season-best time of 39.95 at the NCAA West prelims. He’ll finish the season with a 200-meter best of 20.80 from the NCAA West prelims.

"This was a great experience," Butler said. "It was my goal to get here. It took a lot of hard work but it paid off. Next year, this experience will really help me prepare for the bigger meets and races. Mentally, I was prepared but I just didn’t have it in the end. My start was pretty good but it was tough out of lane one. I’ve been working on running the curve all season and it got me today. I still have a lot more work to do but this experience is a step in the right direction."

Competition will resume at 11:30 a.m. CT Saturday for the Razorbacks with sophomore Tarik Batchelor in the long jump.
