‘Calling’ the Hogs with Alex Perlman

‘Calling’ the Hogs with Alex Perlman

I hope everyone is surviving (and enjoying) the winter storm that has come down on Fayetteville and the rest of Northwest Arkansas. Luckily, basketball is played indoors and there is plenty of hoops action to look forward to. The Hogs’ men’s team faces Clemson Saturday at 1 PM, followed by @RazorbackWBB’s matchup with Northwestern State at 7.

Arkansas should be ready for anything after its only true road game of the season so far. Kansas provided a stiff test in Allen Fieldhouse, but ultimately, the Hogs were just too strong. Jessica Jackson’s three late in the game increased the lead to six and it was all over from there.

The game was decided by Keira Peak and I’m not sure you can really argue otherwise. The senior was aggressive from the tip and set the tone for a young Razorbacks club. Peak scored 20 of Arkansas’ 64 points and knocked down more than a few open corner jumpers, a shot that she was given last year and couldn’t hit with consistency.

It was impressive to see Jackson zone out the distractions and expectations in another team’s gym – especially against KU, who had advanced to the last two Sweet 16’s. The freshman excelled in her first true road test, putting up 15 points and having the confidence to attempt important shots in difficult circumstances. She’s the real deal and a get for Tom Collen that could take the Hogs to another level.

Standing at 9-0, the beginning of the season couldn’t have unfolded more favorably. Tomorrow, Arkansas looks to get to double-digit wins when it welcomes in Northwestern State to Bud Walton Arena. The Lady Demons are 4-2 and like to play a slow-paced Princeton offense. That is in direct contrast with how the Razorbacks like to play, so getting fast break points will be an emphasis going into Saturday’s game.

We’ll begin our coverage at 6:45 PM with the Razorback Courtside Show. As always, Jeri Thorpe and I will have the call at 7. Try to stay warm until then and I can’t wait to see you out at the Bud.

Go Hogs!
