Campbell Named Assistant AD and Vaughn Returns to Football Field

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas assistant football coach Louis Campbell has been named assistant athletic director for administrative services it was announced on Wednesday. Campbell served as director of football operations for eight seasons before returning to the field as the secondary coach last season. Campbell will assist in coordinating elements of the athletic department’s internal operations including working with the football program.

“Louis has done an outstanding job of helping the football program and athletic department in a variety of roles,” Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt said. “His versatility allows him to contribute effectively both on the field and off the field. He is a former Razorback player and loves the university and this program. I appreciate his willingness to serve the Razorbacks in whatever ways he is called upon.”

Campbell was a three-year letterman at Arkansas from 1970-72. He came to Arkansas as an assistant coach for former Razorback head coach Jack Crowe in 1990 and served under Crowe, Joe Kines and Danny Ford. When Nutt arrived in December of 1997, Campbell moved to director of football operations. Campbell has more than 33 years of coaching and administrative experience on the collegiate and professional levels.

Former assistant coach and director of on-campus recruiting Chris Vaughn will return to the field as an assistant coach on the defensive staff. Vaughn will coach safeties after a one-year layoff from the field. Vaughn joined Nutt’s staff as a graduate assistant in 1999 and began a full-time coaching tenure with the Razorbacks in February of 2000. He served on the coaching staff from 2000-05 before assuming the role of director of on-campus recruiting for last season.

“I know Chris is excited to return to the field in a full-time coaching capacity,” Nutt said. “He brings an energy and a passion to his position. He will work with Bobby Allen in the secondary and assume the role of recruiting coordinator. I am confident that he will do an excellent job.”

Vaughn will also return to his role as the Razorbacks’ recruiting coordinator. The Florida native previously held that position from 2003-05 before taking on an administrative position.

Nutt also announced that assistant coach Alex Wood would take over as wide receivers coach. Wood served as Arkansas’ quarterbacks coach last season. Recently hired offensive coordinator David Lee will coach the quarterbacks in addition to his coordinator duties.
