Captains Talk Texas Bowl

Senior offensive lineman Brey Cook on playing Texas in the Advocare V100 Texas Bowl: “I’m excited to play Texas. It’s a very historic rivalry. We have kids from here, families from here and I know my whole family couldn’t be any happier for this game.”

Cook on the team’s reaction to playing Texas: “Definitely excitement. Everyone is excited to come out there and play a team that’s on the rise. They are a very talented, very strong football team and well coached. A rivalry with this history and the great players that have played in this – it’s so much fun to kind of stand where they stood and do the things that they did.”

Cook on the rivalry: “The team has definitely bought in and even some of the guys who don’t really know the history behind it. I think everyone is excited about it and everyone knows that there is something there. It’s a huge thing especially being from here and being able to grow up and kind of know all of that about Texas.”

Junior quarterback Brandon Allen on the bowl game: “I think we all were kind of pulling for it when it was on the table. I’m excited about it and I’m excited for this team to go play a big program like Texas. They are doing a lot of things well, they are on the rise right now. It should be a great match-up.”

Allen on getting the chance to play Texas: “I think it’s huge. I think it adds a little more fire to us in our bowl preparation. Going in to the game, I think it’s something we are looking forward to. We heard about it, now it’s time to prepare and go perform well.”

Allen on how the season schedule prepared Arkansas for Texas: “I think it’s definitely going to help anytime you face the competition that we have faced this season. We know what it’s like to play major and high ranked teams. I think this Texas team is a big program. They have a lot of great athletes and they are playing really good football right now so I think us just being able to play against a lot of good teams this season is going to help prepare us that much more.”

Senior safety Alan Turner on being able to participate in a bowl game: “It’s really big for us. Just to have the chance to be in the game and on top of that to play Texas in Texas. It’s really big for us and not just for us as a team but for the whole program. Texas is a big recruiting ground for us. For us to possibly go out, play a good game and get a win will help us.”

Turner on possibly ending his Razorback career with a bowl win: “It would be really big for me. To see the ups and downs I’ve had here and then to have another opportunity to play in the bowl game and to try to go out on top will be really big.”

Turner on the Razorbacks improving this season: “Just to see the progress that we’ve made throughout the whole season is great. Throughout each and every game we continued to get better and took strides forward. I feel like it showed in our play for the most part of the season. With that being said, without the progress we made we wouldn’t have the opportunity to be in a bowl game.”

Senior defensive end Trey Flowers on the team’s reaction to the bowl assignment: “We were definitely happy. We understood that there are a lot of guys from Arkansas on their team so they most definitely understand the rivalry.  We have a lot of guys from Texas so they understood the rivalry.  This is the biggest bowl that we could get so we’re happy.”

Flowers on playing the Monday Night Football time slot: “We know it’s going to be primetime. It’s a big time environment and big time TV slot. We know we’re going to have the whole country watching us so we want to go out and perform.”
