Cardinal takes game 3

FAYETTEVILLE – Junior Scott Limbocker shut down the opposition for seven innings to give the Arkansas Baseball team’s Cardinal squad its first win in the best of seven intrasquad series against team White at Baum Stadium on Thursday evening, 13-8.

Limbocker threw seven innings and gave up just two runs on four hits, but shaky bullpen work allowed White to come storming back with six runs over the final two innings. Fortunately for Limbocker and the Cardinal team, White failed to make plays and that combined with timely hitting allowed Cardinal to build a huge 8-1 lead by the end of the fifth inning.

Cardinal was first on the scoreboard with a single score in the bottom of the second, but two runs in the third, one in the fourth and four in the fifth proved too much for White to overcome. Cardinal was paced by senior Ben Tschepikow who went 3-5 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored including a double and a line-drive home run over into the right field bullpen. Not only did Cardinal get good defense from its middle infield, but redshirt freshman shortstop Tim Carver also carved out three hits on the evening with a double, a run scored, two stolen bases and three RBI.

Other hitters for Cardinal included senior first baseman Andrew Darr (2-4, 3 RBI), freshman outfielder Seth Gardner (2-5, 2 runs scored) and Ryan Cisterna, Houston Slemp, Brett Eibner, and Andy Wilkins who each had one hit.

Down by 10 as the game went into the top of the eighth inning, Cardinal came back with six runs over the final two frames to make it close but the deficit was too much to overcome. Walks were what hurt the Cardinal pitching as they issued seven free passes to White hitters with four of those runners scoring.

Offensively for White redshirt freshman Collin Kuhn, sophomore Travis Sample and senior Scott Lyons provided each of the six White hits, two each with Kuhn and Sample each collecting two RBI.

Game four of the Cardinal-White series is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m. at Baum Stadium. For more information regarding Razorback baseball or University of Arkansas athletics please visit ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
