Cardinal-White series starts Sunday

FAYETTEVILLE –The Razorback baseball team begins its annual Cardinal-White series on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m. at Baum Stadium. The Cardinal-White games wrap up the baseball team’s fall season.

Arkansas split its squad into two teams selected by the players who will battle for clubhouse bragging rights in the best of seven series. Following Sunday’s game, the Razorbacks plan to return to the field on Monday and Tuesday with 3 p.m. starts before taking at least one day off from the series. The remaining four games have yet to be finalized and will be determined by the Arkansas coaching staff based on need and weather.

Game one of the series has the Cardinal team led by senior infielder Ben Tschepikow, senior catcher Ryan Cisterna and junior left-handed pitcher Dallas Keuchel as the home team. The White squad, Sunday’s visiting team, features senior infielder Scott Lyons, senior outfielder Chase Leavitt and senior pitcher Justin Wells.

Both teams should be evenly matched making for a long series, but veteran leadership and timely hitting could change the momentum of the games dramatically. Both teams feature 13 position players with the White team carrying nine pitchers to the Cardinal’s eight. The White squad has a slight advantage in terms of veteran arms as they carry four pitchers that return from last season to the Cardinal’s three but the Red team has four returning starters in its lineup to the White’s two.
