Career Day In Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Arkansas women’s golf team posted a school record, 18-under 270 climbing up the leaderboard in second round action at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M Monday.

Terrible weather conditions and a delay in play didn’t bother the Razorbacks with all five players shooting under par and four of the five posting career-best rounds.

Sophomore All-American Maria Fassi is tied for fourth place overall shooting 71–66—137. She played both sides 3-under with seven birdies and one bogey in the round.

Junior Alana Uriell is in the clubhouse with a 68–70—138 and is tied for seventh overall. Sophomore Cara Gorlei shot 72–68—140 and is tied for 16th followed by newcomer Kaylee Benton who is tied for 20th shooting 72–69—141. Senior Jordy LaBarbera rounds out the scores with a 75–67—142 and is tied for 26th after two rounds.

The Razorbacks moved up from a tie for sixth place after round one, into second place just two strokes behind top-ranked UCLA. The Bruins shot 272 in the second round and lead the field with a 551. Arkansas is second with 283–270—553 and are four shots better than Georgia who is third with 557.

Fourth-ranked Southern California and No. 15 South Carolina are tied for fourth with 564, followed by No. 7 Florida with 568, UCF with 569, No. 5 Duke with 571, No. 19 Virginia with 572, No. 12 Arizona and No. 2 Arizona State tied for 10th with 574 and No. 9 Oklahoma State 12th with 579.

FROM SHAUNA ESTES-TAYLOR
Well, I’m obviously very proud of our group today. It was very, very solid golf by all five of our players. I think they just played to their capabilities today. They had a game plan, they executed it and they got some putts to drop. We talk about ‘Doing the Possible’ and they did the possible today. But we still left shots out there. My job is to continue to push them to extend their limits and what they think a great round of golf looks like. As a coach these are the days you’re able to change the thermometer of what they are comfortable with and I really love that. We put ourselves in a position to do what we came here to do and that is to go out every day with a committed game plan and represent our university with a lot of fun and freedom and a lot of class. We’re looking forward to getting out their tomorrow and finishing strong.

I’m really proud of Maria (Fassi). That was a great round of golf for her. Jordy (LaBarbera) – a 5-under 67. She said that was her first bogey-free round. She’s been playing some great golf lately. Cara’s (Gorlei) 68 is a tremendous round for her and Kaylee (Benton) shooting a 69 in her second tournament as a Razorback says a lot about her level of play. Alana (Urielll) did a lot of good stuff out there. She didn’t quite have her A-game but she fought hard and is still in position to win a golf tournament.
