Chandler, Ellenwood earn SEC honors

FAYETTEVILLE – Senior Allie Chandler and freshman Ashleigh Ellenwood have earned All-Southeastern Conference soccer honors, the league has announced.

Chandler, from Mesquite, Texas, has been named to the All-SEC second team for the second straight year while Ellenwood, from Michigan City, Ind., has been named to the All-Freshman squad.

Chandler and Ellenwood helped Arkansas go 9-10-1 in Colby Hale’s first year. Arkansas set a school record for SEC wins by going 6-6-1 and earned a spot in the SEC Tournament for the first time since 2000. The Razorbacks also recorded the first wins in program history over ranked teams, beating No. 18 Kentucky in Fayetteville, 3-2, and winning at No. 16 Missouri, 2-1. In addition, Arkansas won at Tennessee, which was No. 18 in the RPI ratings, 1-0, for its first win over UT since 1996. The Razorbacks also beat Auburn, 1-0, for the first time since 2000.

"We’re proud of both Allie and Ashleigh for being recognized by the league coaches," Hale says. "They played key roles as our program took positive steps forward during our first year. Their recognition is a reflection on our entire team, and the hard work they put in and the fight they showed throughout the season. I’m pleased to have had the opportunity to coach Allie and Andrea Carlson for their senior seasons, and look forward to the future as we begin preparing for next season."

Chandler had four goals, two assists and 10 points. She also had 40 shots, 13 shots on goal and a .325 shots on goal percentage. She scored the game-winners against Tennessee and Alabama, and ranks fifth on Arkansas’ career chart with six game-winners. Chandler was also a nominee for the Senior CLASS Award.

Ellenwood scored five goals, had one assist and 11 points. She took 33 shots with nine on goal, and scored the game-winner at Missouri. During the season, Ellenwood earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors.

Last year, Chandler made the All-SEC second team while Jeriann Okoro, who had four goals this year, was on the all-freshman squad.

In 2010, Kelsey Allison made the second team and Melanie Foncham was on the all-freshman team. In 2009, Kim Schleif earned a spot on the second team and Chandler was an all-freshman selection.
