Chavez Tied for Fifth Place at Duck Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Freshman Sam Chavez is among a group of four golfers tied for fifth place after day one of the Duck Invitational in Creswell, Ore. Over the first 36 holes of competition, Chavez carded a one-over-par 145 to lead the way for the Razorback golf team. Arkansas sits in fifth position in the team standings heading into Tuesday’s final round.

Chavez is joined in the top 20 by junior Jason Turner who is tied for 16th place. He and six other golfers are four over par through two rounds. Turner posted a 74 in each round Monday. Arkansas’ third golfer is Andrew Landry at six over par. The Razorback junior carded a 76 and 74 in the first and second round, respectively.

David Lingmerth and Will Osborne round out the Arkansas line up. Lingmerth has a share of 33rd place with a seven-over-par 151 total. Osborne is tied for 41st place with two other golfers. The junior from Wichita Falls, Texas, is nine over par after rounds of 75 and 78.

The team from San Diego State (+5, 581) leads the event by five shots over Pacific. Pacific’s T.J. Bordeaux is eight under par and leads Aaron Goldberg of San Diego State by five with 18 holes to play.

Tuesday’s final round begins at 10 a.m. CT on the par-72, 7,093-yard course at the Emerald Valley Golf Club. Log on to www.hogwired.com for complete results.
