Chicago bound

FAYETTEVILLE- Two days after facing the No. 1 team in the country, Arkansas’ 15th-ranked gymnastics team is on the road for Sunday’s 1 p.m. meet at Illinois-Chicago.

The Razorbacks hosted the No. 1 Gators in Barnhill Arena on Friday.

UIC is ranked No. 45 in the country.

In the individual events, Arkansas is No. 15 on vault, No. 18 on bars, No. 14 on beam and tied for No. 8 on floor.

"We need a good away score," co-head coach René Cook says. "I want to see us really excited, and going after every quarter-tenth of a point and fighting the whole way."

Arkansas leads the all-time series with UIC 4-0, but this is Arkansas’ first trip to Chicago. Arkansas’ wins came in Lexington, Ky., Fayetteville, Tucson for the 2004 NCAA Regional and Fayetteville again in 2006. In the most recent matchup, No. 18 Arkansas topped No. 42 UIC 195.40-192.45.

Although Arkansas is coming off a meet on Friday, Cook expects the Razorbacks to be ready to compete.

"I know we’ll have a pretty good crowd there," she says. "That should be helpful in giving us a little extra adrenaline if we are a little fatigued."

Following Sunday’s meet, Arkansas is back home on Friday to face West Virginia in Barnhill Arena at 7 p.m. The WVU meet is the final home meet of the season.
