Christon makes WNBA All-Star Game

Former Razorback All-American Shameka Christon was named as a reserve to the Eastern Conference team for the 2009 Women’s NBA All-Star game.The Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., will be the host of the event on Saturday, July 25. The Connecticut Sun will host the game pitting the Eastern Conference versus the Western Conference players.The five-year veteran of the New York Liberty is making her first WNBA All-Star appearance. In her first year with the Liberty, Christon was named to the WNBA rookie team.Through the first 12 games of the WNBA season, Christon has started 11 for the Liberty and leads the team with 19 ppg, well above her pro career average of 11.4 ppg. She recently scored 32 points to lead New York past Atlanta, 89-86.This is the ninth WNBA All-Star game, and the East won last year’s event in Washington, D.C., 109-99.This year’s event will be televised by ABC at 2:30 p.m. While this is the 13th season for the WNBA, it is the ninth all-star event due to Olympic years of 2004 and 2008.
