FAYETTEVILLE–University of Arkansas redshirt freshman Destiny Clark earned Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honors Monday. Clark, a Manhattan, Kan., native had a solid weekend hitting .667 in a pair of conference wins over Georgia and South Carolina last weekend. She recorded seven kills, no errors and eight attempts in the Georgia win hitting a season/career-best .875. She was 7-0-13 against South Carolina hitting .538 and added a season/career-best 12 total blocks in the win. Her 12 blocks ranks tied for seventh by an individual in a match. "Our team had a heart to heart meeting last week about how poorly we played in our opening conference weekend," said Arkansas head coach Chris Poole. "We had very little energy and my point to the team was that when they create their own energy on the court, it will help them to play at a higher level. Destiny definitely took that speech to heart. She played with great enthusiasm and made great plays all weekend. This is a very deserving award for her and says a lot about the hard work she has put in the last 12 months. She is still young and only played one year of club ball, but her ceiling is very high and we are excited about what she can accomplish the next four years. She is gaining confidence every week and is becoming a more ‘go to’ player for us right now." Clark is leading the team with a .343 hitting percentage in all matches. Her numbers jump to a .524 mark in SEC-only matches with 23 kills and a team-leading 23 blocks for a 1.65 block-per-game average. The Lady Razorbacks are in the midst of the longest home stand of the season. Arkansas defeated Georgia and South Carolina last weekend and hosts Mississippi State, Mississippi and LSU Friday, Sunday and Wednesday, respectively, as the home stand continues.
