FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas senior women’s tennis player Claudine Paulson was selected to the 2013 SEC Women’s Tennis Community Service Team, the league office announced Tuesday. Paulson, a native of Guayaquil, Ecuador, made the team for her services throughout the community in Northwest Arkansas.
Paulson was as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), which helps create community service activities for students and also allows her to participate in each of those activities that the committee is involved in.
Individually, Paulson was part of the Salute to Veterans, Feed our Starving Children, Rockin’ with the Razorbacks, Lift Up America Feeding the Hunger Program, and the SEC Together we CAN Canned Food Drive. Paulson was also involved in the Sweat Hawgs program which helps promote physical fitness in local elementary schools, as well as Book Hogs, which promotes the importance of reading to area students. Before the season, Paulson and the team participated in Habitat for Humanity, helping build a house for a local community member in need.
Along with all of her activities off the court, Paulson had a very good final season as a Razorback. Paulson, who was ranked No. 79 by the ITA finished the season with a team leading 19-5 singles record, which was tied for the most dual singles wins in the conference, while her 10 conference wins also tied her for the second most in the SEC.
The Razorback women’s tennis team travels to Starkville, Miss. tomorrow for the SEC Tournament. Arkansas is the No. 10 seed in the tournament, and will face No. 7 seed Auburn at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
