Clemson advances to finals

FAYETTEVILLE – Top seed and 15th-ranked Clemson advanced to the second round with a 4-0 win over Wichita State in the opening match of the NCAA Women’s Tennis Fayetteville Regional on Saturday at the University of Arkansas’ George M. Billingsley Tennis Center.

Clemson took an early lead with the doubles point when Tigers Caroline Magnusson and Klara Vyskocilova teamed up to win the match at court three 8-1. The No. 1 doubles team consisting of sixth-ranked Josipa Bek and Keri Wong sealed the point by finishing second in the doubles round.

The Tigers distanced themselves from the Shockers when CU’s Maria Belaya came up with a singles win at court No. 5 (6-2, 6-1) over Carla Venticinque (WSU) and 48th-ranked Keri Wong of Clemson followed up with a win of her own (6-1, 6-1) in the second singles spot over Wichita State’s Raphaela Zotter. It was the work of Klara Vyskocilova at the No. 3 singles position that finalized Clemson’s win with a two-set victory over WSU’s Veronika Blaskova, 6-2, 6-3.

Keri Wong of Clemson improves her overall singles record to 25-12. She was an all-Atlantic Coast Conference honoree and is ranked 48th in the country by the ITA.
