Cliff Powell Named Honorary Captain for Arkans

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas is proud to announce former Razorback linebacker Cliff Powell as the honorary captain for the Arkansas-Ole Miss football game on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004.
The University of Arkansas Men’s Athletic Department will present an honorary captain for each Fayetteville home game this season. Each honorary captain will be honored prior to the game on the field, recognized on the SmartVision and will accompany the Razorback captains to midfield for the coin toss. The honorary captain will also appear at the Fuji Film Legends Tent in the SBC Trough approximately 90 minutes before game time.
Powell lettered from 1967 to 1969. He was All-Southwest Conference in 1968 and 1969 and earned All-America honors in 1969. He held the Razorbacks’ career record in tackles with 367 until 2002.
Powell helped lead the Hogs to a SWC Co-Championship in 1968, back to back Sugar Bowl appearances and back to back top 10 national rankings. The 1968 Sugar Bowl saw Powell the Hogs pound the Georgia Bulldogs 16-2.
A captain of the 1969 squad, Powell is a member of the Razorbacks’ All-Century Team.
