FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas head football coach Bret Bielema met with the media on Monday to recap the team’s 24-3 win over Southern Miss inFayetteville last Saturday, while also looking forward to this Saturday’s game against Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J.
Coach Bielema discussed the process of winning and the mentality of the Razorbacks so farthrough the first three weeks of the season.
"The process of winning is very difficult," Coach Bielema said. "But, our guys are accepting every day. I’m excited to work with this group. They’re a lot of fun. I can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed it as a head coach to be around the kids, the energy, the excitement, the personalities–it’s really been a fun first three weeks. Hopefully, it’s getting better by the day."
In addition to Alex Collinsearninga second consecutive SEC Freshman of the Week honor, Chris Smith was namedSEC Defensive Lineman of the Week.Coach Bielema spoke to how a variety of strong performances on the defensive line have helped set up other teammates for success.
"What I like is it’s kind of been a different guy each time," Coach Bielema said. "When you look at it, Trey Flowers has been exceptional in the two games that he’s played in. That interception last week and some of his pass rushes gave other guys opportunities."
Coach Bielema discussed the challenge of traveling for the first time this season and facing Rutgers on the road this Saturday.
"Coach (Kyle) Flood is an exceptional coach and a guy that I’ve really enjoyed getting to know," Coach Bielema said. "It’s a good chance to go on the road in a hostile environment and to see how our guys can play."
The Razorbacks (3-0) travel to High Point Solutions Stadium in Piscataway, N.J., this Saturday to face Rutgers (2-1). Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.
