Coach Smith, players preview Alabama game

FAYETTEVILLE -University of Arkansas head football coach John L. Smith met with the media Monday afternoon to discuss the 21st-ranked Razorbacks’ upcoming game against No. 1 Alabama.

Coach Smith explained the team still has all of its original goals for the season still intact leading up to the SEC opener against the Crimson Tide.

“It has to be a positive week," Coach Smith said. "We have to go to the field. We have to practice that way. We are still undefeated in the league. We still have the same goals in front of us to win an SEC Championship. We just have to bounce back and get it done. We have to prepare well and play well. That’s where we will start.”

Senior tight end Chris Gragg explained the Razorbacks will be ready for Alabama and SEC play.

“It’s a big game for us," Gragg said. "This is Arkansas-Alabama. We still feel like we’re a top 10 team in the nation. They’re ranked No. 1 right now. They’re undefeated and we have one blemish on our record. We’re 0-0 in SEC and we know that this is a big game, like it always is every year that I’ve been here. It has implications on what happens in the SEC.”

Senior safety Ross Rasner discussed how having Alabama at home is helpful for the Razorbacks.

"Of course it is huge being at home against Alabama because having a conference opener like this is a huge game," Rasner said. "National spotlight, everyone is going to be watching the game. As far as I am concerned we are zero and zero in conference and so are they. It is going to be a battle."

Kickoff for Saturday’s game inside Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium is set for 2:30 p.m., and the game will be televised on CBS.

Tickets for three Fayetteville games are still on sale. Tickets for the non-conference games against Rutgers and Tulsa are $45, while tickets for the conference matchup against Kentucky are $55. Single-game tickets may be purchased online at, in person the Razorback Ticket Center or by phone at 800-982-HOGS. Fans ordering tickets online have the option to print the tickets from home utilizing UA’s new eTicket system.

Single game tickets for the Oct. 27 Ole Miss game are still available for $65. The Razorbacks and Rebels are set to square off inside War Memorial Stadium for the 16th time in series history, including the first meeting and 1913, and the first time since 1992. Tickets purchased for Little Rock contests are not available with a print-at-home option.
