Cold shooting costs Hogs at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -Jeffery Taylor scored 16 points, had 10 rebounds and a career-high six assists to lead Vanderbilt over Arkansas 75-58 on Sunday in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Brand Tinsley had 15 points and Jermaine Beal added 11 for Vanderbilt (19-11, 8-8 Southeastern Conference), which finished the regular season with three straight victories. A.J. Ogilvy scored 12 points and also added 10 rebounds.

Vanderbilt scored the first five points of the game and never trailed. The Commodores led by as many as 10 in the first half and then built their advantage to 58-47 in the second when they held the Razorbacks scoreless for a 6:08 stretch.

Taylor’s free throws with three minutes to play gave the Commodores their largest lead up to that point at 65-53.

Arkansas rallied from a 22-12 deficit to get within 39-35 at the half. The Razorbacks were within 42-41 on a Marcus Britt three-pointer with 17:59 remaining and 51-47 with 11:27 to go on a layup by Courtney Fortson before hitting the six-minute scoreless stretch.

Courtney Fortson had 18 points for Arkansas (14-15, 2-14) while Rotnei Clarke scored 17.

The Razorbacks shot just 19 percent in the second half and 29 percent for the game, and got out-rebounded 49-31. Vanderbilt shot 48 percent and made 22-of-30 free throws while the Hogs were 10-of-14 at the line.

Arkansas faces Florida in the first round of the SEC Tournament on Thursday at 8:45 p.m. central in the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Fla. The game is being televised by Raycom Sports.
