Collegiate Baseball ranks Arkansas No. 1

FAYETTEVILLE – Collegiate Baseball Newspaper ranked the Arkansas baseball team No. 1 in its latest poll released on Monday afternoon. The No. 1 ranking is the first by any publication for the Razorback Baseball team who has earned rankings between No. 1 and No. 12 in each of the April 6 college baseball polls.

“It is an honor to be ranked among the top 15 in the nation,” Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn said. “There are a lot of polls out there and to be No. 1 in any of them is something special. This should make for a great series with Arizona State this week who comes in ranked No. 1 in a couple of polls and No. 2 in another.”

The Razorbacks won three of their four games last week to push their overall record to 22-6 and a Southeastern Conference best 10-2. Collegiate Baseball had Arkansas ranked No. 4 in their March 30 poll and moved the Hogs to the number one spot after the other four teams among their top five lost at least two games last week.

In other collegiate baseball polls, Arkansas earned rankings of No. 7 by Rivals.com, No. 9 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll and No. 12 in Baseball America.

While Arkansas’ ranking may be its first in program history, it is not new territory for Van Horn who led the Nebraska Cornhuskers to a No. 1 ranking on April 23, 2001, in the Baseball America poll.

The Razorbacks now prepare to face Arizona State in a two-game midweek series at Baum Stadium, Tuesday and Wednesday. The matchup faces the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the nation against each other according to Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. Arizona State has also earned rankings of No. 1 in Baseball American and the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Polls and No. 3 in Rivals.com.
