FAYETTEVILLE— University of Arkansas women’s basketball coach Tom Collen is beginning his fifth year on the board of directors of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. As a member of the board, Collen meets twice a year, Aug. 1 and again at the Final Four national convention. His position is an appointment and Collen is selected by a vote of his peers. Some of the responsibilities Collen takes on include numerous conference calls and he serves on the oversight and issues committee helping the organization stay on the cutting edge of changes in legislation. “I really enjoy being a part of the board of directors,” Collen said. “There is not a long list of males who have been on the board and they are very careful to invite representation by those who truly care about the game. I’m honored to be in this appointment and it has really put me in a position to look at our profession from a different prospective. It’s a way for me to give back to a profession that has been pretty good to me.” Founded in 1981, the WBCA promotes women’s basketball at all levels and works to develop a recognizable identity and promote the development of the game for women and girls.
