Collen, Razorbacks host Davidson

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas women’s basketball team and head coach Tom Collen return to action Sunday hosting the Davidson Wildcats in a 1 p.m. contest in Bud Walton Arena.

Arkansas (1-0) is coming off an opening game win over Florida A&M Friday while Davidson (0-1) suffered a loss at UALR earlier this week."Davidson is a new opponent for us in more ways than one," Collen said. "We have never played the Wildcats and they have a new coach this year so any film or information we had from last season might not be what we see in them this year. We’ll watch the tape from their first game and get ready as quickly as we can."

The turn-around is a short one for the Razorbacks who opened the season Friday with a 71-62 win over the Rattlers. Arkansas practiced Saturday morning and will have a quick shoot-around Sunday before the game.

"Our schedule is tough," Collen said. "We have five consecutive home games in 12 days to start the year. We knew it would be a challenge but it will give us a good idea of where we stand."

Juniors C’eira Ricketts and Lyndsay Harris paced Arkansas in the opener. Ricketts was one shy of her career-best with 21 points and Harris added 18 in the win. Junior Ashley Daniels led the defense with nine rebounds.

"We had some really good minutes from our starters – from everyone really," Collen said. "We had a let down in the second half but that is something we can fix. I was pleased with a lot of different performances and we are just going to keep trying to improve with each game."
