FAYETTEVILLE — Off to its best start since the 2010-11 season and within four wins of the best start in program history, the University of Arkansas women’s basketball team (11-0) is no stranger to early-season success in November and December.
Unscathed so far this season, the Razorbacks have now won 20 straight games in the month of November and December dating back to last season. With only two home games remaining this season for the month of December (Tennessee Tech, Mississippi Valley State), this year’s squad looks to extend that streak to 22 straight wins over the winter months.
Arkansas holds a 68-10 all-time record in the months of November and December under head coach Tom Collen, including the team’s 11-0 start this season. The program’s best start of 15-0 was built in large part during November and December, as the Razorbacks went 14-0 during the 2007-08 season. The 2010-11 season was also a notable one with UA getting off to a 12-0 start.
Continuing to make a case for one of the strongest starts in program history, the 2012-13 Razorbacks have seen their success translate to more than just wins. Arkansas currently holds the NCAA’s No. 1 scoring defense (43.0) by holding opponents to 46 points or less in six eight games.
The Razorbacks also hold the nation’s fifth-best field-goal percentage defense (31.2) and held Binghamton to a program-best 17.4 percent shooting performance earlier this season to win the New Mexico Thanksgiving Tournament championship.
Arkansas has also begun garnering national attention for its early-season success, receiving votes in both the AP Top 25 Poll and USA Today Coaches Poll. The Razorbacks rank No. 20 in the country according to the newest Bennett Rankings.
Currently enjoying a break in scheduling for final exams, the Razorbacks return to the court and look to continue their dominance in the months of November and December by welcoming Tennessee Tech to Bud Walton Arena on Dec. 20. Opening tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
