Cox named Academic All-American

HOOVER, Ala. -Zack Cox, member of the No. 12 University of Arkansas baseball team, has been named to the 2010 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Third Team, as announced Tuesday morning by CoSIDA. This is the first career Academic All-America honor for the Razorback sophomore.

As a communication major, Cox carries a 3.34 cumulative GPA. This latest award comes on the heels of the Louisville, Ky., native being selected to the 2010 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 6 First Team. Cox’s success in the classroom includes being a member of the 2009 SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll. He is one of three Southeastern Conference student-athletes on the CoSIDA list.

On the field, Cox leads the SEC with a .432 batting average. He also has a team-best 60 runs scored, 92 hits and a .514 on-base percentage. Cox opened the 2010 season with a 24-game hitting streak and has 32 multi-hit games this season, both marks are team bests. During Arkansas’ May 15 contest against South Carolina, Cox collected his school-record 69th single of the year.

Cox is also a 2009-10 member of the Arkansas’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), along with teammates James McCann and Andy Wilkins. The SAAC advocates for student-athletes within the athletics department and directs community service and other projects on behalf of the Razorbacks.
