Cox named to academic honor roll

FAYETTEVILLE – Senior Stephen Cox of the University of Arkansas men’s basketball team was named to the 2010 SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll by the league office in Birmingham, Ala.

Cox, an agribusiness major, rejoined the Razorback basketball team this fall after considering a move back to golf, the sport he intended to play prior to walking on to the basketball squad. He played golf for just one season before finishing his career with the basketball team.

"We are very proud of Stephen and what he has done during his Razorback career," Arkansas head coach John Pelphrey said. "To be recruited in one sport and walk on to another speaks to the tremendous athlete that he is and the commitment that he has to being a Razorback. He is a great example of what it means to be a student-athlete."

Cox earned his third letter in basketball this season after playing in 23 games and making one start. He averaged 0.4 points and 0.7 rebounds, but was counted on mainly for his defensive abilities. His signature game came at Bud Walton Arena against Auburn when matched up against one of the most prolific scorers on the Tiger team and held his opponent in check during his 16 minutes on the court. His play prompted Arkansas’ coaches and players to comment on the effort he made in the game.

Cox is one of 25 Razorback student-athletes who were recognized by the SEC on its 2009-10 Winter Academic Honor Roll.
