Cox signs Ward for 2009-10

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas head men’s tennis coach Robert Cox has signed Michael Ward from Knutsford, England to play for the Razorbacks in 2009-10.“We’re really excited about Michael joining the Razorbacks this fall,” Cox said. “He’s going to step right into the lineup and I’m confident he will have an immediate impact for us in both singles and doubles. We have been very impressed so far with his consistent results in international play over the last few years. Michael is very competitive and shows a desire to improve on and off the court and I look forward to what he will do during his Razorback career.”

A three-time National Schools Finalist, Ward has played in International Tennis Federation events in Malta, Cyprus, Corfu, Turkey, Ireland and Denmark prior to coming to Arkansas. Ward’s Bolten, England club team won the National Junior Club League title in 2003-2005 and advanced to the semifinals in 2006 and 2008.

Ward is the only son of Graham and Barbara Ward. He has an older sister, Helen. While attending Lymm High School in Cheshire, England, Ward also played field hockey.
