FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – For the second time this year and the first during the outdoor season, Arkansas distance runner Alistair Cragg has been named the Mondo NCAA Division I Athlete of the Week by the United States Track Coaches Association.
Cragg, who earned the Mondo award once during the indoor season, was recognized this time for his performance at last week’s Mt. SAC Relays at Walnut, Calif., where he recorded the nation’s top time in the 5,000-meter run at 13:25.29. A week earlier, in the John McDonnell Invitational, he won the 1,500 with a career-best time of 3:39.24.
UA steeplechaser Daniel Lincoln was also considered for the honor after recording the NCAA’s leading time of 8:29.57 at the Mt. SAC Relays.
An eight-member panel of track and field journalists selects the athletes of the week and will continue to do so throughout the remainder of the season.
