Day One Highlighted By PRs

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 2 Arkansas women’s track and field team collected several lifetime and season bests during day one of the Tyson Invitational (Fayetteville) and Husky Classic (Seattle), opening the weekend in phenomenal fashion.

At home in the Randal Tyson Track Center, Arkansas was led Alexandra Byrnes and Daina Harper, who both placed fourth in the 800 Invitational and 400 Invitational, respectively. Beginning the season as a 2 minute, 12 second 800-runner, Byrnes shaved five seconds off her early season personal best to finish as the top Razorback performer in the four-lap race in 2:07.51. In the quarter-mile, Harper managed to keep pace with Southern California talent and eventual winner Kendall Ellis, pushing to an indoor PR of 52.65.

In Seattle, Southeastern Conference Cross Country Freshman of the Year Abby Gray was the star of the night, running 16:28.95 in her 5,000 debut for the Razorbacks. Gray’s performance placed her among the top-30 best runners in the stacked field which boasted 75 entries.

• 60 Meters Prelims: Kiara Parker with a personal best of 7.36 finished 11th overall.
• 400 Meters: Damajahnee Birch and Sydney Hammit with personal bests of 53.01 and 55.95, respectively.
• 60 Meter Hurdles Prelims: Pentathlon pair Taliyah Brooks and Kelsey Herman both ran season bests posting 8.30 and 8.36, respectively.
