Dixon named SEC Pitcher of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas sophomore Miranda Dixon was named Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced. Dixon led the Lady Razorbacks to their first SEC sweep this season winning two games in the circle against Kentucky. She also held then No. 11 Oklahoma to just three hits on April 7. Dixon earned her second shutout of the year in game two against the Wildcats and tallied eight strikeouts and gave up her only earned run of the week in the final contest of the series. “We’re very happy for Miranda, she had a great week,” said head coach Jamie Pinkerton. “When a pitcher hits her spots, is able to control the hitters and you have great defensive plays, you’re setting yourself up to be successful. Miranda had one of those weeks and pitched extremely well. One of the reasons the team is 9-1 in its last 10 games is because the pitching staff is throwing so well.” The Edmond, Okla., native did not give up more than three hits in any game pitched on the week as she posted a 0.35 ERA. In fact, she gave up just seven hits in 20 innings pitched, struck out 15 and walked only one. Dixon recorded at least one hit and one RBI at the plate in every game in the Kentucky series, including a home run in the shutout she pitched. Dixon hit a game-winning single with the score tied 5-5 in the top of the ninth against the Wildcats. Dixon was named player of the week on February 26, 2008 and the last Lady’Back to be named pitcher of the week was Katy Henry on March 28, 2006. Arkansas hosts No. 2 Alabama in a midweek SEC doubleheader at Lady’Back Yard on Thursday at 5 p.m. For more information and tickets please call the Razorback Ticket Office at 57-LBACK or log on to LADYBACKS.COM.
