Dixon named SEC Player of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas sophomore Miranda Dixon was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, the league announced today.

The Edmond, Okla., native started all five games to lead Arkansas to a 5-0 weekend, a nine-game win streak and a Clarion Inn-Arkansas Invitational title. Dixon hit .733 and went 11-for-15 with seven runs and 10 RBI. She recorded a run and hit in all five games and posted multiple-RBI games in all but one. Dixon posted a 1.467 slugging percentage and .765 on-base percentage.

“Miranda is off to a great start and is deserving of the honor for her performance this weekend,” said head coach Jamie Pinkerton. “When the team is reaching their goals, personal accolades will follow.”

Dixon went 3-for-3 with three RBI in a record setting 18-run, 15 RBI win against Saint Louis. She hit a home run, a triple and a double. She also threw four innings with eight strikeouts, earning her fourth win from the circle.

Dixon leads the SEC with six home runs, a 1.000 slugging percentage and 48 total bases. She is second in the conference with six doubles, 19 RBI and a .559 on-base percentage, and third with a .458 batting average and 22 hits.

The last Lady’Back to earn SEC Player of the Week honors was Mindy O’Malley on April 25, 2005. Katy Henry was named SEC Pitcher of the Week in 2006.

Arkansas plays next in Tempe, Ariz., at the Wilson-DeMarini Invitational on Feb. 29.
