Dixon receives all-region honors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas sophomore Miranda Dixon was named to the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I All-Region team, it was announced by the NFCA on Thursday. An Edmond, Okla., native, Dixon received South All-Region Second Team honors in the utility position. “We had several candidates that had excellent credentials and Miranda put up great numbers that warrant this honor,” said head coach Jamie Pinkerton. “Any award like this is a team effort, but she works hard and has had a very productive year.” Dixon is the team leader in doubles (14), RBI (45), slugging percentage (.614) and on-base percentage (.425), breaking season records in the each of the last three categories. She was the first Lady Razorback to be named Southeastern Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week in the same season. The right handed pitcher and designated player also boasts a 2.05 ERA and 122 strikeouts this season. The health science major maintains a 3.53 GPA and was recently selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District softball team and was on the SEC All-Freshman team last year. Dixon is hitting .310 and leads her team to the NCAA Regional in Norman, Okla., starting Friday. Dixon and the Lady’Backs take on Tulsa at 5 p.m. and then face either No. 7 Oklahoma or Oregon on Saturday. The NFCA All-Region teams honor student-athletes from nine NFCA regions.
