DMR earns All-America honors

FAYETTEVILLE – No. 7 Arkansas Razorback track and field advanced two to Saturday’s finals and saw its distance medley relay earn All-America honors on day one of the NCAA Indoor Championships, at the Randal Tyson Track Center on Friday.

"I thought we had a really positive day," head coach Lance Harter said. "We have Shelise Williams and Stephanie Brown to tomorrow’s finals and our DMR performed well in tonight’s race. The pole vault and the 4×400-meter relay are two big events for us tomorrow and we are looking forward to them."

Junior Shelise Williams finished seventh in the prelims of the 400 meters. Her time of 53.08 advances her to Saturday’s final. Freshman Stephanie Brown finished sixth in the prelims of the 800 meters. Her time of 2:05.89 also advances her to Saturday’s finals.

Sophomore Samantha Learch(1,200 meters), sophomore Whitney Jones(400 meters), freshman Regina George (800 meters) and sophomore Kristen Gillespie (1,600 meters) combined for a time of 11:16.27 in the distance medley relay. The quartet finished seventh to earn All-America honors. Jones earned her second certificate while Learch, George and Gillespie received their first All-America award.

Events continue at the NCAA Indoor Championships at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
