Jump to Mississippi State box score FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas captured a three-game win over Mississippi State in Southeastern Conference action behind an 11 kill performance from Jessica Dorrell Sunday. Arkansas improved to 13-7 overall and 6-2 in the SEC with the 30-22, 30-24, 30-28 win over State (10-7, 1-6 SEC). The Lady’Backs were solid in the first two games easily out-hitting State in the opening frames. But State found some life in the third game opening an 11-point, 16-5, lead and Arkansas was in trouble. But Arkansas managed to hang together and put together some runs. Senior Karla Crose served for five consecutive points pulling Arkansas within six, 18-12, and Dorrell again heated up with five kills and a.667 hitting percentage in the third game. The sophomore finished with 11 kills, hit .714 and had six blocks. The block also came up big for Arkansas with the Lady’Backs tallying five of the team 14.0 blocks in the final frame. Arkansas exchanged points with State with the Bulldogs up 20-15, then 27-22, but Arkansas wouldn’t go away. Junior Denitza Koleva stepped back to the service line and rocketed several strong jump serves taking State out of the offense as the struggled to control the bullets Koleva was feeding them. The Sofia, Bulgaria, native served for eight consecutive points leading Arkansas to the win. Back-to-back service errors by State followed by a Koleva ace and a Bulldog ball handling error, cut MSU’s lead as Arkansas tied the game at 27. Dorrell laced a kill down the left line followed by a State hitting error sending Arkansas to match point. Junior Kele Brewer put the icing on the cake in the come-back with a cross court shot that brought the crowd of 763 to their feet. Arkansas finished the match hitting just .154 with 39 kills, 45 digs and 14.0 team blocks while Mississippi State hit .089 with 40 kills, 36 digs and 10.5 blocks.
