Early tee time

PALO ALTO, Calif. – The University of Arkansas women’s golf team was selected to the 2010 NCAA West Regional last week.

The Razorbacks traveled to Stanford, Calif., for the three-day event. The team went through a five-plus hour practice round Wednesday at the Stanford University Golf Course. Action gets underway Thursday-Saturday, with the top eight teams from each of the three regionals (West, East, Central) advancing to the NCAA Championship.

Arkansas did a lot to solidify the lineup at last week’s Southeastern Conference Championship with the return of senior Alex Schutle to the lineup. The Broken Arrow, Okla., native missed much of the spring with an injury but posted counting scores in her return.

Junior Kelli Shean has been the team’s leader going low in nine of 10 events for Arkansas this year. Shean ranks sixth in the SEC and 17th in the nation for stroke average.

Also traveling is seniors Kristin Ingram and Tiffany Phelps and freshman Victoria Vela.

"We’re excited to be here and ready to go," said Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor. "This is what we’ve trained and prepared for all year and it’s time to go out and execute.

"This golf course sets up well for us and we have three players who have played here before," she continued. "Their experience was big for us as a team in the practice round and will be important for them on the course this week."

The Razorbacks are scheduled for an 8 a.m. Pacific, 10 a.m. Central tee time from the 10th hole. Fans can follow hole-by-hole scoring at golfstat.com and get updates at ArkansasRazorbacks.com throughout the tournament.
