Ellingsen third at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Freshman Brede Raa Ellingsen picked up a bronze finish in the championship high jump for No. 17 Arkansas Razorback men’s track and field on Saturday at Penn Relays, in Philadelphia, Pa.

"As I said after Friday’s events, this team has to re-learn how to fight adversity and compete," head coach Chris Bucknam said. "We are not far removed from winning the SEC Indoor title and earning a top-five finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships so I am optimistic we can find those qualities. Brede Ellingsen and our first two legs of the 4×800-meter relay gave us a taste of that today so that was a start. But we have some serious work to do in the next three weeks. We got a wake-up call this weekend."

Ellingsen competed in the championship high jump. He finished third overall and first among SEC competitors. He cleared 7-1.

In the championship 4×800-meter relay, junior Chris Bilbrew (1:50.96), freshman Drew Butler (1:49.16), freshman Omar Abdi (1:56.04) and Leoman Momoh (1:53.53) finished 12th and combined for a time of 7:29.68.

At Friday’s Missouri Southern Bill Williams/Bob Laptad Invitational, sophomore Stuart Sparks finished third in the pole vault with a clearance of 15-11. Senior Chad Burnett was fourth with a height of 15-5.

The Razorbacks will compete next when they host the Arkansas Twilight, Fri., April 30.
